In the state of Rajasthan, the largest in all of India, is Jodhpur, a city with more than 1,200,000 inhabitants. Its origins date back to 1459, when it was founded by Rao Jodha. Its advantageous location allowed the city to benefit from the increasing traffic of copper, silk, dates and coffee. Due to the color of its houses, it is known as the Blue City.
Jodhpur is the reference that has served as inspiration to create this premium gin. The connection with the Indian city is so strong that it has even ended up adopting its name. However, its production is carried out in one of the oldest distilleries in England, based on select grains and thirteen different botanicals.
The production of this spirit is marked by four distillations. In the latter, a citrus puree macerated for seven days is added to the alembic, including orange peel, grapefruit and lemon, which ends up defining the unique character of Jodhpur. This citrus touch is complemented by Juniper, Coriander, Angelica, Bitter Almond, Licorice Root, Orris Root, Cumin, Ajowan Seed, Black Cardamom, and Ginger. This unique miscellany allows you to simultaneously offer bitter, sweet and fresh aromas.
The gin in question on this occasion is part of the Beveland catalog, a company located in Sant Joan de les Fonts, a small municipality in the La Garrotxa region, in Girona. It is distilled following the traditional London Dry Gin method. Jodhpur is characterized by its transparency and its sparkles. On the palate, its flavor is smooth and somewhat oily. As it passes through the throat it is aromatic and balsamic. Its flavor remains for a considerable time.
We have no doubt that Jodhpur is a high-quality gin, with unique qualities and a very exotic source of inspiration. However, the design of its bottle is also commendable. In fact, it has been recognized by the various awards that have been awarded. For example, it has received the gold medal for the best presentation of the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2011 and 2013, in which it competed against 1106 brands from 61 different countries. Behind this award-winning design is Morera Design, a company led by the Catalan José María Morera.
It is suitable to consume the Jodhpur within a cocktail, mainly with tonic. To the two main elements can be added two slices of Granny Smith apple and two grains of green or black cardamom. Also perfect for Elderflower Passionfruit mixes. Here the perfect mix comes from the hand of Elderflower liqueur, passion fruit juice, lemon juice and a light touch of liquid sugar.
